Overview
Mafia Island sits south of Zanzibar and moves at a noticeably slower pace โ fewer resorts, fewer visitors, and a genuinely excellent marine park protecting some of the healthiest coral reefs on the East African coast. Between October and February, plankton blooms draw whale sharks close to shore, giving snorkellers a realistic chance at swimming alongside the largest fish in the ocean.
