Overview
Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact, unflooded volcanic caldera, and one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas on Earth. Around 25,000 large animals live within its walls year-round, including one of Tanzania’s last populations of black rhino. Because the crater floor holds water and grazing through the dry season, sightings are reliably strong whenever you visit โ making it one of the few places genuinely worth the drive on any itinerary.

Ngorongoro doesn’t have an off-season โ the crater floor holds grazing and water year-round, so wildlife concentrations stay high whenever you visit. The dry months (JuneโOctober) give the clearest skies and easiest driving; the short rains (NovemberโDecember) bring green scenery and fewer vehicles.
