Overview
Serengeti means “endless plains” in Maa, and the park earns the name. This is the stage for the Great Migration: over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra moving in a year-round circuit chasing the rains, with river crossings at the Mara in the north (July–September) and calving on the short-grass plains near Ndutu in the south (January–March). Resident prides, leopards along the Seronera River and cheetah on the open plains make it a Big Five destination in any season.

Best Time to Visit
The Serengeti rewards visitors in every season, but timing changes what you see. Visit June–October for the northern river crossings and dry-season game concentration; January–March for the calving season and dramatic predator action on the southern plains; and November–May for lush green scenery, birdlife and fewer vehicles at sightings.
