Overview
Lake Eyasi sits at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, its shallow waters often reduced to salt flats by the dry season. What draws travellers here isn’t the lake itself but the people around it: the Hadzabe, one of the last true hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa, still living largely off the land with click-language communication and traditional hunting methods, and the Datoga, skilled pastoralists and blacksmiths. Lake Eyasi is a cultural visit more than a wildlife one, so it works well year-round. It’s most often added as a half- or full-day stop on the way south from Ngorongoro toward the Serengeti.
